Debridement

Debridement is an integral part of wound bed preparation as it helps to optimise conditions on the wound bed to promote healing. Its use can also help to maintain the wound edges to promote re-epithelialisation and can improve the condition of the periwound skin.

The debridement method used should be based on what is suitable for the individual patient and their wound.

It should be used as ongoing process to be repeated as and when necessary to ensure barriers to wound healing are removed.
